Klaring's saved reports in a desktop window, with a dashed gap marked Click to restore where a report was deleted

Context

In the dashboard settings, sellers delete invoice templates, reports, and saved replies. Deleting asked for confirmation first, and the dialog didn’t stop mistakes, because people click through dialogs.

My role

I designed the pattern, tested it in a prototype, and wrote it up for the design system so other teams could use it.

Solution

Deleting a row now leaves a gap where it was. Click the gap within a few seconds and the row comes back. Keep working and the gap closes by itself. The confirmation dialog is gone.

It’s undo in the place you’re already looking, instead of a message in the corner of the screen.

Saved reports, with a gap where a row was just deleted.

The gap left by a deleted row. Click it and the row comes back.

What I learned

Undo works best where the mistake happened. A message in the corner asks people to look away from their work to fix it.
