Klaring's orders table in comfortable density, with a round density dial in the header and the row under the cursor highlighted

Context

Sellers on Klaring read long tables all day: orders, payouts, disputes. Some want as many rows on screen as possible, others need room to read. The dashboard had a density setting in the account menu, and changing it sent you back to the top of the table.

My role

I noticed the problem while sitting with a colleague in support, designed the control, and built a prototype in React before we changed the real tables.

Solution

One control on the table itself moves it from compact to comfortable. The row under your cursor stays exactly where it is while the rest of the table grows and shrinks around it, so you never lose your place.

The choice is remembered for each table, because people read the orders table and the payouts table differently.

What I learned

A setting people change often belongs where they are looking, not in a menu. And any change to a list has to keep the reader’s place.
